Adjara is a historical region of Georgia. Divided into two parts: Upper and Lower Adjara.
Adjara has a status of the Autonomous Republic. Adjara is located in the South -western part of the country, on the Black Sea coast. From the south is bordered Turkey. The main city of the region is Batumi. There is a port in the city of Batumi it gives the city a huge importance. In second place – Kobuleti.
On the territory of Adjara region are 342 settlements. The total area of the region is about 2900 square kilometers.
Adjara region is famous with a subtropical crops, there are grown: mandarin oranges and grapefruit, kiwi, tea, etc. A large proportion of citrus is exported to many countries
Adjara Coast is a resort area. In the summer period, tourists come here from many countries. There are hotels almost all along the coast that are completely clogged in the summer season. Famous Places beach holiday Kobuleti, Kvariati, Batumi, Gonio, Sarpi, Chakci.
There are developed different types of tourism in Adjara: Eco tourism, beach tourism, wine tourism, mountain tourism, hunting tourism, bird watching. In short, this area attracts people with its unique nature and climatic conditions.
Mountainous Adjara is the place where are grown different varieties of grapes and are made wine delicious. The most famous sights of the region: Gonio Fortress , Batumi Botanical Garden and Church Skhalta .
The Batumi Botanical Garden is located in a distance of 9 kilometers from the city of Batumi. Located on the Green Cape, Garden area is – 111 hectares. The garden was founded by the famous Russian botanist Krasnov. It was officially opened in 1912. There are more than 5000 plants in the park. Park is open all year round; it can be visited at any time. The flora of the Batumi Botanical Garden is divided into nine floral departments.
Adjara region , as well as all regions of Georgia , is an integral part of the country and places a very important role in the economic, political, tourist, cultural , educational, and industrial life of the country.
